Meet the team: Our Specification Managers

Today, we’re introducing you to our friendly London-based Specification Managers, as part of our regular series that takes you behind the scenes of Johnson Tiles. Say hello to Dory D’Arcy, Mark Harle, Nick Bicknell and Phil Jones…

What’s your favourite product at Johnson Tiles?

Dory: The one that wins me the project!

Mark, Nick & Phil:
Savoy!

Mark:
It’s just a great new range that offers so many creative possibilities. Seven colours, two slim sizes, one finish – each of the shades go really well together. What more could you want?

Who or what inspires you?

Phil: My children, definitely. Without a doubt.

Dory:
Everything. Inspiration can happen at any time. It’s everywhere and can strike at any time.

Mark:
Dory inspires me to get out of the office every day!

Dory: [Laughs] Cheeky!

Nick:
For me, it has to be London. It’s such a crazy, vibrant and wonderful city. Eclectic, diverse – it’s forever changing and it really makes you push yourself and want to be creative.

First off, tell us a bit more about yourselves?

Dory: I’m a former designer with lots of experience in the textile industry. I previously worked at Milliken and prior to that, I was with JAB.

Mark: I’m London, born and bred. I’ve spent 20 years in the hospitality industry, and previously worked for Porcelanosa.

Nick: I’ve joined from Amtico and live over in Milton Keynes.

Phil: I’ve spent 25 years in the flooring industry and come from Milliken. Fifteen years of that involved specification. Oh, and I live in Cambridgeshire.

What do you love about your job?

Dory: I love working with forward looking, dynamic and ambitious companies like Johnson Tiles. I really want to make a difference and get great job satisfaction out of seeing a brand succeed.

Mark:
For me, it’s all about teamwork. I strive to be a successful team player and achieve my personal and professional goals that I have set myself. That’s what I love.

Phil:
It’s a completely new and exciting venture for me. I’m used to working in textiles, so this role is hugely challenging – and I relish that.

Nick:
Nothing beats the thrill of pitching for a project and winning it. It’s great to work closely with our clients and see how everything comes together.

What book are you currently reading?

Dory: The Black Swan by Nassim Nicholas Taleb

Mark: The Quarry by Iain Banks

Nick:
Twitter!

Phil:
High Heat by Lee Child

And what music are you listening to?

Phil: John Newman!

Dory:
Imagination

Mark:
A little bit of Daft Punk

Nick:
Podcasts, actually. I love listening to things like The Infinite Monkey Cage with Brian Cox and Robin Ince.
