Clerkenwell Design Week 2014 - Day One
The streets of Clerkenwell are also filled with exciting showrooms, many of which have opened their doors for the festival. Certainly worth a visit is The Reclaimed Flooring Company, which has focused its Clerkenwell exhibition on architects at work. As you enter, you are instantly hit with the beautiful scent of wood, while the neutral colours, painted finishes and selection of colour ranges are all equally as appealing.
In Detail, the metal structured geometric light by Kaia Lighting from London and Vienna is a must-see. This simple-yet-elegant triangle inspired light hangs in front of a grey backdrop, showing off its exquisite metal frame.
Keep an eye out for our highlights from the rest of the festival later this week. And if you’re there then be sure to let us know about your own highlights by tweeting us @JohnsonTiles.
The Aeon Rocket – designed by Morten Voss for Light Years is another highlight on show at the Design Factory. The lights are a combination of metal and polypropylene, and their unique structure and shape exudes contemporary design with an urban twist. The matte appearance keeps these lights bang on trend with their semi matte lacquered appearance also in grey, which is a key colour in the ‘neutral palette’.
Spanning three outside walls of the Farmiloe’s iconic ‘cowshed’ entrance, the mural, created using 4,224 matt and gloss tiles, attracted plenty of attention. The buzz is set to continue throughout the festival too with anyone sharing photos of the wall on social media in with a chance of winning a luxury holiday to Barcelona – simply tag Twitter, Instagram or Facebook pics with the hashtag #CDWcolourwall. More details on that here!
There is plenty more to explore at this year’s Clerkenwell Design Week too, with the festival now bigger than ever. Our designers have been casting their expert eyes over the most exciting companies, displays and trends on show and have picked out some of the highlights from day one that you should look out for.
Auxilium Salvage is a brand that salvages material from Germany, and re-conditions it ‘with love’ in London. Its first product, The Candy Collection, is on show at Clerkenwell Design Week. The chalky pastel hues combined with stone greys and beiges, alongside the styling of the shades, placed at varying heights, is a real eye-catcher amongst the designated lighting area of Design Factory.
Shades of coral mixed with metallics such as silver and neutral, natural shades of moss and grass greens, creates a tonal look for the lamps. Worth a visit to see simplicity of shape paired with use of colour to create a statement.
Clerkenwell Design Week kicked off in style and we were delighted to unveil our giant tile mural designed by artist Ptolemy Mann.
After months of planning, there was plenty of excitement as the crowds began pouring into the Design Factory at the Farmiloe Building and were immediately greeted with an explosion of colour from our Prismatic Landscape installation.
