Introducing the inspiration boards

Mosaic

Decorative mosaics have always been a popular way of adding a touch of the artistic to a project – particularly internationally, as we spotted on a recent trip to Portugal. Traditional blue and white floral patterns, and graphic imagery ordained walls and floors at every turn. Our latest collaboration with design studio David David for London Design Festival at the V&A has design elements inspired by this very style of tile, combining British design and Islamic geometry.

Chalky Tones

Pastel and chalky tones complement the colour trend and for those who feel slightly overwhelmed by brights, this particular theme is a stylish antidote. Choosing patterns in pastel hues will ensure style, without being overbearing and providing a blank canvas for creativity. Chalk and pastel also ties into the trend for geometrics, with a variety of brands choosing this combination of understated colour and angular shape for their designs.

Secret Garden

Drawing inspiration from the ‘secret garden’ in terms of floral print and paving stone-like hexagons, we look at the upcoming trends to emerge in Spring 2015. This trend is a continuation of the indoors/outdoors theme spotted at design festivals from Milan to Clerkenwell, and everywhere in between. A compromise between colour and understatement, it provides classic style with a contemporary twist by way of the hexagonal shape.

Colour

Although Clerkenwell Design Week 2014 took place back in May, the trends showcased show no signs of slowing down. Take colour, for example. All things bright and beautiful provided the inspiration for our own Prismatic Landscape in collaboration with artist Ptolemy Mann, using our bold Prismatics range. Many other brands followed suit, ranging from vibrant accent colours to bold and neutral combinations.

Our finished tiles are the result of extensive research, trial and testing from our experienced design and production teams. Each range represents a culmination of inspiration, drawn from a variety of sources. From the upcoming A&D trends, to the latest fashion collections being shown on catwalks worldwide, the full spectrum of creative industries provides an inlet to inspiring the finished tiles that take pride of place in your home, office or design project.

With almost a thousand different products to choose from at Johnson Tiles, an important part of the design team’s role is keeping on top of the latest trends in colour, shape, texture and material, to help adapt and create new ranges ahead of the ever-moving industry.

One of the ways we collate our inspiration is putting together trend and mood boards. We’ve decided to share some of our favourite boards with you to help inspire your own projects and give you a sneak peek into the trends shaping our designs.
