Design Team Inspiration for December

Next up in London, the Design Team took to the streets to see which winter and Christmas trends were most prominent this year.

As seen all over in recent months, the galaxy trend was very popular. Here we share some photographs from the trip that highlight the look used in Christmas shop windows on Oxford Street.

Colour-wise, black, navy and purple shades were broken up with glittering gold silver and bronze features. There is a sense of new world discovery within the space theme, but also a use of precious stones and earthy textures as a contrast. 

We love the playfulness of this trend!

The Design Team was inspired by the cultural history of the dresses, scarves, prints and wallpapers on display:

International influences were very prevalent, reflecting the fashions of past decades. There were lots of Japanese, French and American styles, but there is also a quintessential Englishness about much of its work.

Every print design imaginable was on show, including florals, geometrics, embroidered, embellished, animal prints, ikats and paisleys.

The variety of materials used was interesting, from crushed velvets and metallic shimmers to delicate cottons featuring pearl trims.

Luxury is a common theme for Liberty, with complex illustrations, creative embellishments and impressive attention to detail paramount to every piece.

Aside from the fantastic items on display, what is truly inspiring about the Liberty collection is the endurance of the brand. Unafraid to test bold experiments and seek innovative new ideas and designs, trends come and go and come back to be re-invented in a never-ending journey of style and design. This week, the Design Team has been in London, exploring the latest print, fabric and colour trends found in the capital city.

First stop was the Fashion and Textile Museum to see an exhibition celebrating 140 years of the iconic fashion and print brand Liberty.
