Design Team: Sight Unseen – NYCxDESIGN

Trends

Shape and form was key throughout the show. One standout company, Fernando Mastrangelo Studio, created poured concrete stools and dyed pigment with subtle ombré tones. The slight structure complimented the colours and completed the pieces perfectly.

Pattern

Geometrics and abstract block colouring stood out amongst the exhibitors.

Tantuvi used block patterns with a tonal mixture of muted colours against deep and pastel shades, to create a stark and interesting contrast.

Colour

Across the exhibition, deep muted tones were noted, grouped together in colour palettes and with some used as accents against neutrals. Putty pink was popular throughout.

One brand that particularly stood out through its use of colour was Concrete Cat, producing furniture, sculptures and architectural elements with concrete, which focused on form, pattern and colour.

Sight Unseen OFFSITE (13-16 May, 2016) coincides with New York design week - NYCxDESIGN - and the ICFF (International Contemporary Furniture Fair), showcasing the work of innovative studios from across the industry. Since its inception the event has become a hotbed of talent, attracting design professionals and design lovers alike.

Our Design Team has spent the past week in New York City hopping from one show to the next, whilst noting down the must-see trends along the way.
