Highlights from the Surface Design Show 2017
This year’s Surface Design Show, held at London’s Business Design Centre, was packed full to the brim with eye-catching textures and materials – all invoking a tactile quality.

Wood
Traditional tones captured the imagination of the show’s exhibitors, more laid-back than industrial and urban.
Structures
Bold geometrics once again prevailed in a large-scale format.
Colours/Trends
Muted tones were a popular choice, particularly blues and greens, paired with copper accents.
The overall trend for the show focused on nature and bringing the outside in, very much tying into Pantone’s Colour of the Year for 2017, Greenery.

Fabrics
Geometric patterns were favoured on a small-scale, to provide a subtle textural appearance.
Wallpaper
Geometric and linear patterns were also used across wallpaper and coverings – some quite bold, and others very subtle.

Both diverse and inspirational, our Design Team found a wealth of engaging exhibits, steeped in creative innovation. Here, they will share some of their discoveries, many of which you can also see on our Instagram.
Surfaces
Subtle textures and patterns were seen across many different surfaces. Glass and mirror were hugely popular, either distressed or vintage in appearance, or with a modern spin through geometric patterning.
Netting and mesh were spotted in a range of colours and patterns to create depth and interest.
Metallic surfaces with organic marks utilised deep, muted tones.
