Johnson Tiles awards New Designers Associate Prize 2017 (Part One) to Faye Jones
After a fantastic preview of New Designers 2017, our Design Team took to choosing their winner for the Johnson Tiles Associate Prize (Part One).

With so many talented designer/makers showcasing their work at the annual event, it proved a difficult task to select just one collection for the prize. However, Faye Jones – a graduate of Staffordshire University – truly stood out.
Johnson Tiles’ designers and judging panel for the Associate Prize, Amy Pears and Maria Swain, first spotted Faye’s work at the Staffordshire University degree show, highlighting her as ‘one to watch’. And at New Designers her designs once again caught their attention before going on to be awarded the top prize.
A designer and photographer working with mixed media and varying processes of experimentation, Faye’s collection – Inconspicuous Assault – is inspired by urban and natural decay.
With the dark trend-led, monochrome colour palette, her carved and etched laser-cut woods provide an interesting new approach to the surface of the material.
