Driving carbon literacy awareness across the architecture and design community
We’re proud to announce that Glynn Davies, our Head of A&D Specification Sales, is the fourth member of our team to be awarded their Carbon Literacy Certification.
Although we’ll admit that the road to a more sustainable, more resourceful and planet-friendly future isn’t easy, we can say that we’re actively supporting our staff in growing their knowledge around climate change, enabling them to confidently communicate with customers and clients alike.
Glynn’s decision to join our small (but growing) community of Carbon Literate certified professionals is born from both personal interest and a desire to drive more informed conversations amongst the architecture and design community. Following the one day, online training, Glynn has now committed to an individual and a group pledge to lower his own, and the wider workplace’s, carbon emissions. But it's not just in the immediate Johnson Tiles network where his learnings will be making an impact.
The knowledge gained will also extend to a new professional network Glynn is proud to be a part of, the East Midlands Sustainability Partnership. The East Midlands based-group welcomes professionals and clients from across the sector who are eager to make new connections and drive cross-industry collaboration to tackle the growing sustainability challenge - whether that's onsite, during design or product specification. Led by a core team, the group hosts monthly events with key speakers to share insights on sustainability in the built environment, Energy and Carbon, Biodiversity, and Social Sustainability.
“I am proud to have worked with the architecture, design and build community for over 16 years but there has often been a fear around collaborating and sharing of ideas. Our goal with the partnership is to eliminate that competitive edge and kickstart a chain reaction for action and coworking. A space that fosters a culture of transparency allowing people to freely work together. It’s about progress over perfection, as I learned on the Net Zero Masterclass course” commented Glynn Davies. “We have already had a great turnout and hope to welcome many more to our future events.”
The next event will be held in September. You can find minutes from the previous events and information to join at emsustainabilitypartnership.wordpress.com/.
The Net Zero Masterclass is run by our longstanding marketing agency, Hattrick, who hosts courses throughout the year tailored for professionals in B2B marketing and the built environment. Building strong, long term relationships like this has been a key part of our journey so far and a core value that will continue at Johnson Tiles Limited. Driven by a newly structured management team which includes Carbon Literacy-certified Jason Bridges, we will build on our ethos of sustainable growth to ensure that our strategies align with the latest advancements and industry standards - all of which will be shared in due course.
We take pride in being part of a growing carbon literate community, and as more team members fulfil their pledges with passion and purpose, we will continue to share our knowledge with a wider audience.
Glynn’s pledge:
“On an individual level, I am committing to moving to an electric (or, at the very least, hybrid) vehicle - a greener alternative that I’m also exploring for our fleet vehicles. In addition to this, I have also pledged to request meat-free only lunches/meals at team gatherings, which will help to reduce our collective carbon footprint.”
