Swift Leisure Café
Swift Leisure Café
Cottingham, East Yorkshire
In our latest project feature we worked with Swift Group Ltd to update their canteen area, utilising our tiles to modernise and spruce up the space. Swift are a British manufacturer of leisure vehicles, including caravans and motorhomes. Started in 1964, they are based in Cottingham, East Yorkshire and wanted to create a focal point in which their workforce could relax, meet, eat, and mingle, thus Hub Sixty-Four was born.
To create their intended vision, our Duplet range of Chevron wall tiles were the perfect choice. Duplet is influenced by the Geometrics trend to create symmetry and balance within a space. The glazed ceramic 260x64mm tiles in the Graphite and Ivory colour ways were used in distinctive areas, in both left and right styles and gloss and satin finishes to create stylish wall features that stands Hub Sixty-Four apart from the rest. The innovative chevron format exudes a playful nature, great for generating a creative and resourceful space for the workforce to get inspired by.
To complement Duplet, the Chroma 300x100mm slim format glazed ceramic wall tiles were also used in one of the kitchen areas. The Nightsky Satin and Coal Gloss options were laid together herringbone for a sleek and sophisticated backdrop, that projects modern elegance. Made in the UK, these moody tiles add depth and dimension, making the space appear larger.
Jim Bolton from Swift advised ‘With our existing works canteen facilities looking somewhat dated and no longer being utilised properly following the return from the pandemic, the company wanted to invest in its workforce. The decision was made to use Swift’s own in-house talent to design and manage the fit-out of the building, resulting in the building we have today. A building with multiple distinct areas, but united by a cohesive design vision with common themes interlaced through the building.
The decision to use Johnson Tiles was an easy one – a company like our own, still proudly manufacturing a quality product within the UK and able to quickly meet our needs. The wide portfolio helped, but having the tiles we wanted to coordinate with the rest of the scheme sealed it. The tiles we chose tied straight into the unifying aesthetic vision of chevrons representing progress and a continuous forward drive. Having a range of tiles to match this vision was a real bonus for us, allowing several different treatments to be used in different areas.
We remain very happy with the results. The facility has become everything we wanted and more, a meeting place where employees from all departments can relax and rub shoulders with each other, and with visitors to site from across the world, who we are now proud to welcome and share the space with.
The experience of working with Johnson Tiles was great. Everything we ordered arrived when we expected it to, and Emily and Carol were both a pleasure to deal with.’
